Checkpoint of Prayer

When we pray by the Scripture, there are a few points that we need to keep in mind. First of all, we should not use the Scripture Prayer like a spell. The Bible contains no magical prayer phrases. We should not pray as if we are reading a novel. We should not think that we have done our duty to pray by engaging in a Scripture Prayer.

Another point to remember is to live the life of getting near the Word of God. If we pray by reciting Bible verses without meditating on the Word of God, we cannot expect to receive abundant grace. Thus, only when the life of reading and meditating on the Word of God becomes a routine, an effective Scripture Prayer can be realized.

Sweet Rain of Grace

If we devote our mind and spirit to God’s character and Word, our praying style will change amazingly. We will pray with a stronger faith and pray with hope and love. Our appearance will change in accordance with God’s will. This is the greatest benefit of a Scripture Prayer. The purpose of a prayer is not to force our will but to change our will through the Word of God. The second benefit of Scripture Prayer is that it makes a prayer of spiritual blessing possible. Scripture Prayer raises our spirituality from the superficial level.

Praying Time

The length of Scripture Prayer depends on the number of Bible verses. If we pray with one verse after reading the Bible, the praying time can take between ten and twenty minutes. Because Scripture Prayer can be done throughout day and night, it can take a longer time. The more time you spend on the prayer, the more benefit you will reap. Because you will be praying with the Word of God only without interference of human thought, the prayer can bring amazing results.

Closed Prayer Room

1. Scripture Prayer is a prayer in which we recite or meditate on the Word of God.

2. Example of a Scripture Prayer: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your [Young-Gi’s] requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your [Young-Gi’s] hearts and [your] minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6-7).

4. The Order of Scripture Prayer

  • Praise (Hymn or Chorus).
  • Confession of Thanksgiving
  • Reading the Biblical Passage
  • Carrying out the Scripture Prayer

5. Self-illumination

  • Did I offer the Scripture Prayer superficially (like reading a novel or simply reciting the words)?
  • Did I read or meditate on the Word of God before giving the Scripture Prayer?
  • Do I keep myself near to God’s Word regularly all the time?
  • What are some Bible verses that you often like to use in a prayer?
